Hiduron

Hiduron 191 is a cupronickel alloy, composed of 14.5% nickel and 4.5% manganese which is strengthened by the inclusion of iron and aluminium.

The addition of iron and aluminium makes Hiduron 191 stronger than conventional cupronickels with superior tensile strength and toughness when compared to aluminium bronzes.

This increased strength and toughness, coupled with anti-fouling and corrosion resistance properties, are key reasons why Hiduron 191 is widely used in critical marine environments where service is often required after long periods of inactivity.

Industries

Applications

Hiduron 191 fasteners are in regular use within the following sectors:

  • Naval & Defence
  • Process Industry
  • Oil & Gas
  • Subsea
  • Ships and submarines
  • Propeller shafts
  • Pumps & valves
  • Process control equipment
  • Hydraulic connectors, pistons and cylinders

Phosphor Bronze

Phosphor Bronzes are alloys composed of tin, copper and phosphorous.

The addition of phosphor to bronze increases wear resistance and stiffness, while the inclusion of tin increases corrosion resistance and strength.

Phosphor bronze fasteners are available in several grades. Here at Smith Bullough, we manufacture fasteners in UNS C51000, C51900, C52100 and C54400 phosphor bronzes.

Properties of Phosphor Bronze

Phosphor bronzes exhibit excellent spring qualities, high fatigue resistance, excellent formability and solderability, as well as high corrosion resistance.

These properties make Phosphor Bronze suitable for products and environments where resistance to wear, fatigue and chemical corrosion is required.

Low coefficient of friction coupled with good electrical conductivity and solderability means that phosphor bronze is often used in electrical components. The alloy is also common in marine applications.

Industries

Applications

High resistance to corrosion and wear alongside elasticity, conductivity and solderability means that Phosphor Bronze fasteners are used across a wide range of industries, including:

  • Aerospace
  • Marine
  • Chemical
  • Electrical
  • Cryogenics
  • Electronics
  • Medical
  • Automobile
  • Propellers
  • Electrical Switches
  • Springs
  • Bushings
  • Bearings

Copper

Copper is a native metal which features excellent malleability and ductility.

Copper has good fabrication properties, is easy to work and can form alloys with other metals like zinc, molybdenum, nickel, chromium and tin.

Copper features high corrosion resistance and can conduct heat and electricity, making it ideal for use in electrical, heating and plumbing applications.

Due to the natural antibacterial properties of copper, it is often utilised in the medical, food and pharmaceutical industries, as well as marine environments.

Industries

Applications

Copper fasteners are in regular use within the following sectors:

  • Electrical
  • Heating and plumbing
  • Industrial
  • Petrochemical
  • Military
  • Marine
  • Food
  • Medical
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Ships
  • Power stations
  • Heat exchangers
  • Cooling appliances
  • Processing equipment
  • Electrical components & wiring
  • Power transmission
  • Sanitary and medical equipment
